Catch Up With Babe, Chester and Barnaby

Emma and Louise from The Nursery Farm (Barton Moss Road, Manchester, M30 7RR) got in contact with Pig Inn Heaven to say they would like 2-3 pigs to add to their existing animals on the farm.

They came along to Pig Inn Heaven and chose Babe, Chester and Barnaby. We went to see them settled in on Monday 24th August, and as you can see from the photographs they are really happy and enjoying their new home!

Emma said: “They have settled down very well and have no problems coming to us. Babe was a little bit nervous at first but now comes to us when we call his name. We are really happy with them”.

It is wonderful to see pigs that we have rescued being rehomed into a loving environment. We would like to thank Emma and Louise for their support!

Goodbye Turtles!

Pig Inn Heaven waved goodbye to seven of our turtles this week. Thank you to Michelle and Judith from Flixton, who rehomed Tammie (pictured), Terry, Timmy, Bertha, Fleur, Fern and Princess! They’ll be missed here at the sanctuary, especially by the remaining turtles, who look a little lost by themselves in our huge tank!

As you can see opposite, we also have six geese at Pig Inn Heaven. They have been here for a few months now after we took them in from a home in Bolton, where their owner couldn’t look after them anymore due to ill health. They roam around site during the day, always sticking together. They must have found something interesting on the wall judging by the picture!

A big thank you also goes to the Co-Operative in Littleborough, who continue their charitable work with Pig Inn Heaven by donating waste food on a weekly basis. Believe us when we say the pigs are very grateful!

Finally, Pig Inn Heaven has undergone a big summer clean up, as we try to give the pigs the best environment possible to enjoy themselves! Don’t forget, if you would like to rehome any animals we are more than happy to show you around the site to help you find what you’re looking for!

Summer Has Arrived

It has been a busy last few weeks at Pig Inn Heaven as the warm weather begins to pick up. The pigs have been lapping up the longer hours and sunny spells by spending their days enjoying the sunshine all over the sanctuary!

We have recently had a number of volunteers from the nearby Birch Hill Hospital. Birch Hill provides inpatient mental health services for adults. A volunteering placement at Pig Inn Heaven can help them with their condition as well as providing an extra-curricular activity they can enjoy for a couple of hours each week.

We will shortly be adding to “Our Other Animals” section on the website – come back soon to see the resident goats!

Welcome, Warm Weather (And Turtles)!

With the weather warming up and the skies getting brighter, the pigs here at Pig Inn heaven have been spending a lot more time outside – sunning themselves (like Rosie, pictured left)! They are a lot more relaxed and have been finding nice, muddy holes near the river in which to kick back. However, this means it is now well and truly brush and oil season in order to keep them clean!

Sheldon, Newt and Babe are the newest pigs and they are settling in well. Babe has taken to Newt, despite Sheldon and Newt arriving together! Sheldon has made new friends easily though, and tends to hang around with Barnaby, David and Boris.

We have also had two recent additions to our ever growing population of turtles. Beans and Toast – who are around two years old – have been here for three weeks now after arriving from Middleton through Yvonne and Charlotte. We would also like to thank Yvonne and Charlotte for their very generous donation to Pig Inn Heaven!

Finally, Royston the resident dog who keeps the pigs in check throughout the day, has had his hair cut for the summer!

Sharing Is Caring

Here at Pig Inn Heaven, one of the pigs’ favourite times of day has to be feeding time. Some love it more than others and can get greedy! However, they all learn to share the food between one another and even with the other animals. None more so than Annie, who can be seen here sharing food with Vingt-Quatre, one of the many chickens that we have at Pig Inn Heaven. Despite being much smaller, they are streetwise enough not to miss out on feeding time! On this picture, Annie is tucking into some pig nuts and kindly allows Vingt-Quatre to share (unless she was so busy eating she didn’t realise!). Nevertheless, it was an opportunity the chicken wasn’t going to turn down!

Belly rubs, and our new arrival 'Housey'

A new pig arrived with us this week, by the name of Housey, he's a little cutie and soft as you like. He rolls over like a dog when you try to fuss him - some of the pigs do this, it's not unusual.Take Bert as an example. He's been with us about a year now - you might remember, he came here with his friend Martha? Anyway, when you give Bert a belly rub he just slumps to the ground and lies on his side for you to get more belly, and just grunts softly - oh the joy of being a pampered pig at Pig Inn Heaven! The black pig is Bert

Bagel Day!

The pigs had a real treat today - Sainsbury's donated their excess stock of bagels to the pigs, what a treat for them. They all clamoured to be first in the queue - Polly tries to steal a march on the rest in the 'who's cutest?' stakes by sitting nicely for her bagel (clever girl!), but the others soon cottoned on to her wily ways! Daisy soon stole Polly's crown by wearing her bagel in the style of a fetching nose-ring......

Let's take a look at how Murphy's doing

Murphy was one of our first residents - he came to us with his friend Dudley, and they still stick together. Obviously, we'd like them to go to a new home together - they're such good piggy pals, they'd miss each other if they were parted.Murphy is a gentle boy, happiest when he's eating his favourite food, bananas!
